Rolling Stone’s definitive list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Rolling Stone's Most Recent Stories. NBC Premieres New Series ‘Songland’ at Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood. An Update on the Rolling Stone Charts. The First Time: Willie Nelson. The third album by Jack and Meg White was the right dynamite for a mainstream breakthrough. Jack’s Delta-roadhouse fantasies, Detroit-garage-rock razzle and busted-love lyricism, as well as Meg’s toy-thunder drumming all peaked at once.
All songs are original recordings remastered. It's a little surprising that they couldn't license The Rolling Stones at all, or even a solo track from either Jagger or Richards. The set has very few short-comings otherwise. I would have different songs to represent certain artists (Santana & The Steve Miller Band for instance), but otherwise it's AMAZING.
The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" is a 2003 special issue of American biweekly magazine Rolling Stone, and a related book published in 2005.
Criteria: These Greatest Rock Albums were chosen for their Popularity, Influence, and Musical Impact. This list includes 'Studio', 'Live', and 'Soundtrack' albums. Metallica (The Black Album) (1991) - Metallica 78. Sticky Fingers (1971) - The Rolling Stones 79. Synchronicity (1983) - The Police 80. 1999 (1982) - Prince 81.
The Rolling Stone 200 is staid and unimaginative; it is also useful. The Rolling Stone 200 is staid and unimaginative; it is also useful. In theory, the magazine’s more recent list of 500 albums provides welcome breadth and variety, but in fact it doesn’t at all–it merely brings you closer to the present with albums you totally expect to be there, plus older picks that flesh out known quantities. I also doubt the Big Star two-fer was ever a double CD, and Roxy Music made an album named Siren, not Sirens. It’s a long list–errors will be made. Forgiveness is a virtue.
