I was eight years old when Appetite for Destruction was released in 1987 – and I wanted a copy more than anything else in the world. My father had given me his old turntable and I was told I could spend my pocket money on whatever records I wanted.

The debut from Guns N' Roses was a watershed moment in '80s rock that chronicled every vice of Los Angeles led by the lye-voiced Axl Rose and a legendary, switchblade-sharp band. The video for Welcome to the Jungle, Appetite for Destruction’s mission statement, mirrors the journey that an unsuspecting listener might take during their first spin through Guns N’ Roses’ 1987 debut.

The sound is superbly crisp in the high end but feels a little weak in the low end. Not much bass on a raw speaker output unless you artificially add it with a subwoofer or such. I cant compare with other releases so perhaps they are all like this, I have experienced the same thing with old and new Led Zeppelin albums and they never really had great bass back then either, its just that its more noticable on the remasters with brighter high end. There seems to be some sound separation issues as well, with instruments that could sound clearer. What I can say is that the press is fine and sleeves just great looking and feeling. I was surprised to find the inner containing lyrics and the original cover "rape" image. Its a good release of the album but if you can find one with better reviews about the low end then go for that instead. Its remastered pretty well but still sounds digitally sourced, like a CD.My review for a 1987 release: https://www.discogs.com/Guns-N-Roses-Appetite-For-Destruction/release/9769131Coming from the newer 2015 remasters I have to say its a bit of a different experience. The remasters have that digital aspect to them with great detail but mostly so regarding the high end and with a harsh edge to everything. This is more balanced but a little less clear in the sound. Perhaps its unfair to compare an at best VG+ or so copy to another mint release, so bare that in mind. One negative aspect about that is of course that you want to increase the volume because the music is great and that now being possible due to the balance, but at the same time increasing the pops and crackles. Luckily its mostly noticeable during song transitions. Whatever you prefer in your music you should get, I can see both as having their place. But Im still searching for that perfect release, with the best of both worlds. The Japanese original might be the next place to look. Thats not to say it sounds better because its heavier, thats a common myth among the vinyl community. If you are a big fan of their work and collect all their stuff Id suggest looking elsewhere however. If you want something really exclusive you can look at the original with the Rape image as a cover or a Japanese original press, both would be impressive collectors items to have. If you are willing to pay the price of course. Otherwise Id still suggest an 80s repress in good condition over this.

Since this is a repress of the 2015 issue then this probably released the same year or the next at the very latest.

I bought mine in Germany in early June 2017 (Repress of 2015) in a Saturn which usually stocks only newly released/shipped LPs. Still this is no safe indication that this is a 2017 press but - together with devotionalie's buy in May 2017 I have the 'feeling' that this is an early 2017 repress...

Well someone might have bought theirs yesterday, but that doesnt matter since you got yours earlier. Likewise someone might have gotten it earlier than you. Im just saying whats likely. They ran out of stock in a year or so and pressed some more, is whats most likely to me, 2 years seem to be dragging it a bit.
