It's The Mars Volta essence made a song. Psykedelig progressive punky, funky, jazzy trash Metal. The kiosk in my Temporal Lobe is shaped like Rosalyn Carter" is probably the silliest lyric I've ever heard from any serious band. This is one of the great songs of the mars volta from de-loused album. This guys have a good rock noise with a nice groove, riffts and something as I call rock with feeling. 5 Day of the Baphomets. Seen them perform this live, now my life is complete! UListen to Sample. The beginning of this song just sends me to another world and really relaxes me. The part leading into the chorus always reminds me of the song, On the Brink - Coheed and Cambria, which is also great. Fantastic use of tempo and dynamics with the contrast between the slow, melodic verse and the hectic chorus.

The best album by The Mars Volta is De-Loused In The Comatorium which is ranked number 364 in the overall greatest album chart with a total rank score of 7,682. They manage to make great and innovative music, always shocking and never dull. Like a modern-day King Crimson.

Overall, this is a good introduction to The Mars Volta's music. My judgment is based on my experience with three songs featured here - and not to compare with full album where the CD duration is typically more than 45 minutes. The production is good, but not as sharp as on later releases. This little EP shows the evolution of The Mars Volta from At the Drive In.

Cedric Bixler and Omar Rodriguez were the main duo behind the newly formed Mars Volta, and took the band into realms of hardcore, psychedelic rock and free jazz, rather a drastic change from ATDI's "emotional punk" sounds. On January 23, 2013, Cedric Bixler-Zavala revealed that he was no longer a part of The Mars Volta and that the band had broken up. Cedric and Omar then created Antemasque.

This Mars Volta album sounds great and is a welcome addition to my collection. It's very difficult to find any other Mars Volta albums, unfortunately. This particular release is, IMHO, underrated as it is one of their more quiet albums, relatively speaking. The lyrics are extremely well written, and convey the message that cedric intends. Musically, it makes for a good opener, however i find that the drums when they come in seem out of place or time. Teflon- If you ask me, the lyrics here are worth looking at, but this song is essentially filler compared to the rest of the album, I find it musically uninteresting. Halo of Nembutals- not bad, better than teflon at least, but once again, little more than filler to me. With Twilight as my Guide- If this is the "acoustic album" this song is why.

I’ve been listening to mostly Mars Volta recently, and for good reason, because it’s damn amazing music. The album is a result of Omar taking a different stance on life after his mother died, as he decided to stop being a bossy arse, basically, and let Cedric do the writing for once, and work on a record more collaboratively. The end result is interesting, as it’s radically different to previous Volta, but brings back some punk and some extra funk here and there to make an ultimately great album, if lacking the grandeur of previous works by the band.
