Johann David Heinichen, Francesco Veracini, Antonio Lotti, Johann Joachim Quantz, Johann Adolf Hasse and his wife, the famous singer Faustina (to name only a few) were all active in Dresden. The relationship to the Hasses might have been particularly close, since Weiss named his son Johann Adolf Faustinus. Meetings with Johann Sebastian Bach are reported by Johann Elias Bach and Johann Friedrich Reichhardt. Silvius Leopold Weiss died on October 16 1750 in Dresden.

Following the frequent illnesses of Kapellmeister Johann David Heinichen, Zelenka gradually took over the direction of the sacred music. In January 1726, he began entering his own works and those of others he collected into a register called Inventarium (1726-39), one of the most important documents of Dresden baroque music. In July 1729, Heinichen died and Zelenka became acting Kapellmeister, a position he occupied in an unofficial capacity until 1734. His close friends included eminent composers such as Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann Georg Pisendel and Sylvius Leopold Weiss.

The local band, the Dresden Court Chapel (predecessor of the Dresden Staatskapelle), was studded with superstar soloists, most of which were also adept at composing, and the Dresden music scene was equally buzzing with the best of the time: Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Johann Friedrich Fasch, Johann Gottlieb und Carl Heinrich Graun, Johann Adolf Hasse, Johann David Heinichen, Antonio Lotti, Johann Georg Pisendel, Johann.
