Elton John once said of this song, "I don't think I've written a love song as good since. Your Song" was first released by Three Dog Night on their album "It Ain't Easy" (1970). Elton John performed as an opening act for them at the time and allowed them to record it. They did not release it as a single, though, because they wanted John to have a go with it.
