Kassem Mosse - Workshop 19 The line on Kassem Mosse used to be that he was responsible for some of the least conventional house and techno out there. Then strange became almost normal, and the far-off corner of club music he'd carved out with producers like Mix Mup and Workshop bosses Lowtec and Even Tuell began to feel closer to the center. That Workshop 19, Wendel's debut album, doesn't sound especially trendy or cutting-edge probably says less about its producer than it does about what's happened in dance music since his releases first gained traction. It features no pseudo-New Age soundscapes, tacked-on sheets of noise or PhD-level modular patches. The second 12-inch, featuring a quick beatless interlude and a pair of lengthier explorations, is a shade darker and more contemplative.

His remix of Commix was a particularly fine moment, while his 12" for Dial sub-label Laid was a melodic shuffling delight. Here he returns to the Berlin based Workshop imprint, with three "Track 1" hogging the A Side and characterised by tense synth work and a looped up female vocal which remains central to the track. From this foundation Mosse adds a dose of other deft anagloue tweaks which combine to create a cavernous sonic landscape
Kassem Mosse Workshop 19 Albert Freeman, May 2nd, 2014 07:20. Coming from one of the most talked-about, respected artists in underground house and techno, an eight-year wait for a debut solo full-length seems an awfully long time to put off such a long-demanded piece. Of course there were the two albums from last year, one under his The Siege Of Troy alias, and one a collaboration with frequent comrade-in-arms Mix Mup, that did something to satisfy, but respectively an obscure tape release and a mini-album, even one of undoubted quality, hardly calmed the clamoring Kassem Mosse fans.
