The Mouse and the Mask is a collaboration album by Danger Mouse and MF Doom under the name Danger Doom, released on October 11, 2005 by punk label Epitaph Records in the United States, marking it the third hip hop release for the label.

Danger Doom (stylized as DANGERDOOM) was a hip hop project consisting of Danger Mouse and MF DOOM. Their first album, The Mouse and the Mask, was released in 2005, and followed by the Occult Hymn EP in 2006. Danger Mouse and MF DOOM had previously collaborated on "Social Distortion" from Prince Po's The Slickness, Danger Mouse's remix of Zero 7's "Somersault", and the track "November Has Come" from Gorillaz' second studio album, Demon Days.

The album is composed almost entirely of raps by MF DOOM, performed over beats created by Danger Mouse sampling music from various television shows airing on Cartoon Network’s programming block Adult Swim. This is the album where I also realize that he's not just a rapper, he's not just an artist, not just a villain he's a comedian, a brilliant one at that. Also, that moment where Space Ghost is pissed with DOOM was priceless, I was jumping in my seat laughing. BASKET CASE, NO NAMES, SPACE HO'S, CROSSHAIRS. Doom kills it and the sonic aspect of this album is quite amazing and very consistent. The interludes can get annoying sometimes but it’s not that glaring of an issue.

Danger Mouse, as he's done with cartoon hooligans and mashing up . s, displays a deft hand on the sequencer and a taste for whimsical soundtrack samples. Here he takes that penchant and amplifies it, conducting neck-snapping scores for long-lost Looney Tunes. Food and his King Geedorah project, but never has the concept of an album had him sounding quite this chipper. The labyrinthine self-analyses of Madvillainy are mostly absent, but Doom remains sharp, focused on slaying a cavalcade of smartass cartoons.
