Wolf Parade taps into the sound of modern disconcertment on Cry Cry Cry, but the album's grandiosity is mostly restricted to the music itself - rousing, urgent, and always seeking out slivers of hope.

On Cry Cry Cry, Wolf Parade issues another reliably good record that pulses with energy. My wife and I were both devastated when these dudes called it quits. The EP that they released directly after they announced that they were back was awesome and now we’re throughly enjoying the Cry Cry Cry record.

On Cry Cry Cry, Wolf Parade is the closest that they’ve come quality wise to their first record. They took a style of music that should be outdated, and modernized it with gorgeous synth leads, and instrumentals that jump off of the track. When we get to the latter half of this album, Krug and Boeckner give us a glorious finale as if it were a movie. The record kind of seems like it is split into two parts, with the first part urging people to follow their dreams, and the second half asks people who they really are. While the themes don’t totally work in harmony throughout the entire 47 minute running time, the superior music itself overshadows the message completely.

Cry Cry Cry is much in the same vein as past Wolf Parade releases, balancing Dan Boeckner’s hook-laden indie rock melodies with Spencer Krug’s more ornate art rock sounds. Wolf Parade is a Canadian indie rock band formed in 2003 in Montreal. The band released three full-length albums before taking a five-year hiatus in 2011. They announced their return in 2016, releasing a self-titled EP in May of that year, and a fourth studio album, Cry Cry Cry, in October 2017. Wolf Parade began in April 2003, when former Frog Eyes member Spencer Krug was offered a gig by Grenadine Records' Alex Megelas.
