CREATE TO INSPIRE don’t really step outside the box all that much with Sickness, instead choosing to confidently deliver some tight post-hardcore musings that rarely does anything to stand out, aside from some genuine moments of brightness. It’s a shame that by the end of the album you are left in somewhat of a disappointed state, with the whole album feeling like the band are on the brink of something really great but just not quite nailing it down

Create To Inspire take things to the next level with their debut album. Three years on from their impressive debut EP, ‘Halfway Home’, Create To Inspire continue their ascent with ‘Sickness’. They still pack a ferocious sting in the tail, but there’s more emphasis on melody and texture here, the Essex group’s first full-length striking that heavy, soft sweet spot dead-on. From the anthemic post-hardcore bounce of ‘Regret’ to the punchy and poetic ‘Adjust’, it’s certainly affecting stuff; Sean Midson effortlessly alternating croons and screams throughout.

The simplistic instrumentation fits snug into the band’s presentation but can grow uninteresting at points. Lead singer Sean Midson is a powerhouse on Sickness. He plays the ground between two very diverse styles of clean and unclean vocals. A grit and roundness akin to Dance Gavin Dance-era Jonny Craig and Mayday Parade’s Derek Sanders exist in Midson’s vocals. That’s hurting the message of Create to Inspire. The instrumentation of the band beautifully plays into the sound of Sickness. The dissonant chord introduction in Recluse kicks into a stellar drum fill that propels the entire song forward with great energy. It’s just as you’d hope in a good Post-Hardcore group.
