About Views . Views is Drake’s fourth studio album, excluding 2015’s mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. Drake announced on August 6, 2014 that the title of his next album would be Views From The 6. Drake would shorten it to Views closer to the album release. The build-up for the album has been bigger than any of his albums, thanks to the long delay between 2013’s Nothing Was The Same and 2016-his longest break between albums to date.
As expected, Drake’s Views album debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with an explosive first week. The set earned . 4 million equivalent album units in the week ending May 5 in the . according to Nielsen Music. Views is Drake’s sixth straight No. 1 album, and follows the chart topping bows of What a Time To Be Alive (with Future, in 2015), If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (2015), Nothing Was the Same (2013), Take Care (2012) and Thank Me Later (2010). His only charting album to miss the top was his debut EP, So Far Gone, which peaked at No. 6 in 2009.
The album's title was first announced as Views from the 6, as it first appeared from a report in a July 2014 article from Billboard. According to Drake on Twitter, "the 6" is a reference to his hometown of Toronto, Ontario. On April 28, 2016, it was revealed that the title had been shortened to Views.
Drake's 20-song, 82-minute Views finally premiered on Thursday night (April 28), and you know we were right there with Apple Music blasting, running through the 6 with Aubrey D. Graham all over again. And you also know we've got our instant track-by-track analysis ready for you. As with our track-by-track for Beyoncé's Lemonade, consider this a premature evaluation-an avid, loving and critical one-and a heads-up for what to expect as you begin spending time with Drake's Views in your life
2016's Views is another in a string of dour transmissions from the dark night of Drake's soul. As before, he casts himself as both the melancholy bachelor looking out over the city from his penthouse manor, and the criminally underrated rap genius demanding his due, and it's one album too many for both personas. He's already delved deeply into his insecurities, lambasted all his exes, and displayed his fierce self-pride, never shying away from telling everyone exactly where he started and how far he's come.
VIEWS is an album that has three different directions that it tries to go in at once. On songs like Hype and Still Here, Drake sounds very in touch with his more recent material and raps similar to how he did on If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late. He also attempts to channel the sound that made his 2011 album Take Care such an enormous success with songs like Keep The Family Close and Fire And Desire. The best songs on the album are the Caribbean, dancehall style tracks. Drake takes the biggest risks both with instrumentals and with vocal performances on these songs, and they pay off quite nicely.
Label: Young Money Entertainment – none, Cash Money Records – none. Format: 20 File, AAC, Album, 256 kbps. In my opinion this album wasn't as good as If You're Reading This It's Too Late or What A Time To Be Alive, but I do believe it is better than some of his previous albums such as Nothing Was The Same and Take Care. As stated in an interview, the whole album progresses through seasons of Drake's life-from Winter to Summer and back to Winter again(giving it a colder vibe that lightens up just to be cold again).
Drake's fourth proper album feels claustrophobic and too long and weirdly monotone, but the occasional tweaks in sound lead to a few great moments.
