The Monks were an English pop punk/new wave band, formed in the late 1970s by three former members of Strawbs-Richard Hudson (guitar), John Ford (vocals, guitars, synthesisers) and Brian Willoughby-along with Terry Cassidy (vocals and synthesisers) and Clive Pierce (drums). Their first album, Bad Habits, was recorded and released in 1979 after the success of "Nice Legs Shame About Her Face", which reached number 19 in the UK Singles Chart. The song was a demo that was not intended for release

The Monks of Doom is an American alternative rock band, formed in California in 1986. The band's music draws from post-punk, progressive rock, indie rock, psychedelic and folk rock traditions. The group is a side project of the band Camper Van Beethoven, with whom all Monks of Doom members have been involved. In 1986, the band began as an offshoot of Camper Van Beethoven, who were enjoying increasing critical and commercial success

John Wesley Harding" is a song by Bob Dylan that appears on his 1967 album of the same name. Dylan told Jann Wenner in a 1969 Rolling Stone interview that the song "started out to be a long ballad like maybe one of those old cowboy. you know, a real long ballad. But in the middle of the second verse, I got tired. I had a tune, and I didn't want to waste the tune; it was a nice little melody, so I just wrote a quick third verse, and I recorded that.
