Sound + Vision is David Bowie's box set compilation released on Rykodisc in 1989. By the end of the 1980s, the rights to Bowie's pre-1983 catalogue originally issued by (Phillips/Mercury Records and RCA Records) reverted to Bowie and his former management company MainMan. Rykodisc had approached Bowie in 1988 to re-release albums on CD and Bowie agreed, and in September 1989 the Sound + Vision box set was released

As such, this 40th-anniversary reissue of Space Oddity does not so much commemorate a great album- it doesn't even rank among Bowie's 10 best- but rather the true first chapter in an often brilliant career (not to mention the dawn of Bowie's fruitful collaborative relationship with producer Tony Visconti).

David Bowie‘s classic album The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars was last week reissued by EMI as a remastered CD and an LP/DVD combo. This was to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1972 album. Since the original RCA CD issue in 1984 we have had quite a few variants and reissues: 1990 – Rykodisc/EMI remaster with 5 bonus tracks. 1999 – EMI/Virgin remaster with no bonus tracks. 2002 – EMI 30th Anniversary remaster with bonus CD of (largely) previously released bonus tracks.

Disc One features the original album remastered from the original analogue master tapes. Disc Two features 15 bonus tracks, of which eight are previously unreleased, including two ultra-rare demos

Originally released in the UK on February 11th, 1977, SOUND AND VISION was taken from the groundbreaking albumLow,the first of the so-called "Berlin Trilogy" of albums. The song gave its name to Bowie's anthology boxed set and it's accompanying greatest hits tour in 1990 and is the only track actually performed by him in his stage playLazurus.
