Closer to Heaven", the musical written by Pet Shop Boys and Jonathan Harvey was performed at the Arts Theatre, London, from May to October, 2001. It had been a long-term ambition of Neil and Chris to write an original stage musical with contemporary music in a contemporary setting; "Closer to Heaven" was their first attempt. A new production of "Closer to Heaven" was performed at the Visy Theatre at the Brisbane Powerhouse, Brisbane, Australia, from 8th to 18th June 2005
