Recording sessions for Choice of Weapon began in March 2011 with Chris Goss, who produced the 2010 Capsule EPs. They have, in Choice of Weapon, reasserted themselves as true masters of bombast electric riff charged rock. Half the album is Electric tinged rock perfection, the other half harks back to the Cult from the days of Love and is considered and understated. They complement each other brilliantly. The last track (stream above), This Night in the City Forever, takes both, screws them up together and throws in The Doors for an epic album finisher. This is very big and quite clever.

Choice Of Weapon" is, in my opinion, The Cult's strongest release since their controversial self-titled album in 1994. And, with the band's lineup maintained since "Born Into This", there's a welcoming tight cohesiveness to their playing, a sureness that just wasn't there before. This may as well mark the beginning of a much-needed, promising new phase in their career. All the other songs - including the four capsules on the bonus disc - have great hooks though, proving that the Ian Astbury/Billy Duffy team is far from burnt out. This is great news.
