The Good Rats are an American rock band from Long Island, New York. Their music mixes elements of rock with blues and pop. They are best-known on their native Long Island, although they had some success nationally and internationally.

Good Rats Songs defined an era of great rock and roll, authentic and virtuoso playing, brilliantly written songs and captivating performances. The Good Rats song Does It Make You Feel Good, was the opening track to their phenomenal Rat City In Blue album. The song’s killer opening guitar riff set the tone for perhaps the greatest vocal performance of Peppi Marchello’s career. Easily one of the greatest Good Rats Songs ever released. The last three songs on our Essential Good Rats Songs list all hail from their classic 1974 album Tasty. The first of the group is the classic story of Papa Poppa. This one featured a rare acoustic guitar opening.

The Good Rats ‎(LP, Album). Kapp Records, Kapp Records. I'd say this album teeters on that edge of underrated lost gem and something you find yourself listening to and wanting to just put on a Crow album instead. But man you really got to hand it to a band that stuck with it, grinding it out from 1964 all through the 70's and developing a small but very loyal following. That's a hell of an accomplishment, especially when no fame nor fortune ever came. The Good Rats deserve some respect, dammit, and they got it from me in spades. Worth checking out. The Good Rats were still there in their single outfit, as good as in 1969 and I used to place them on the B&O from time to time. This record is by far not the best sound of East Coast rock music, however it is with Tasty the direction of the great ones to follow such as the Grand Funk Railroad and Bruce Springsteen.

These other reviewers are nuts...This album kicks ass! Severely underrated & under appreciated N.Y. garage punk. To me they sound like The Blues Magoos covering pre-1970 Alice Cooper.

Here's an honest look at this one: Lester Bangs I ain't. and this review won't be earth-shattering or anything, but just for the sake of anyone thinking about spending around $10 on this record or better yet finding it in the dollar bin let me summarize this album real quick: The Good Rats' debut is a fun little brainless amalgamation of late-era garage and boilerplate psych. The cover is tasteless. The band is ugly. The whole package is a little unsettling and bland...standard bargain bin stuff. But BOY HOWDY they can bang out some slick little numbers with great aplomb! Sure, the horns are a little hokey, but I find a lot of times with this transitional era in rock n' roll you have to take the bad with the good, and there is some definite good here. The lead singer does a decent enough job (I think he even cries for real on "For The Sake of Anyone)" and the organ blares as if in a cult horror film while the drummer bangs away like a little Jimmy Fox. The riffs are standard psychedelic with some major key rockers and minor key thinkers, but there are some interesting changes here and there. It's at times both underproduced and overproduced, and all in all it's a fine mess of crap that gets you dancin', and that's what rock n' roll is about after all. I'd say this album teeters on that edge of underrated lost gem and something you find yourself listening to and wanting to just put on a Crow album instead. But man you really got to hand it to a band that stuck with it, grinding it out from 1964 all through the 70's and developing a small but very loyal following. The Hobo is a good song - the entirety of the rest of the band's output is fairly bluuurgh.

The cheapest I ever saw new sealed albums offered in a department store was ten cents. I decided to buy one album fairly at random (it was this one) to see what a ten cent album sounds like and all I can say is you get what you pay for.
