Sweet Jesus THE QUIETUS It is a testament to the confidence White Manna must have surrounding their first album that this most triumphant of uncompromisingly relentless psych bands have the absolute bare minimum of online presences. Indeed, the artwork for White Manna's album is nearly identical to that for Dead Meadow's Old Growth. But, like so many of these bands, homage and a soulful kind of imitation is the basis of their existence. And also like so many of these bands, in this they succeed spectacularly.

Manna is the third album released by Bread in 1971. The title, like that of the preceding album On the Waters, is a Biblical pun on the name Bread, this time to the manna from Heaven fed to the Israelites. Although this was not literally Bread (the word Manna simply means "What is it?") it has often been metaphorically described as bread from Heaven. The singles "Let Your Love Go" and "If" were released from this album. Side one. "Let Your Love Go" (David Gates) – 2:25.

Especially for this album, Samla Mammas Manna recruited a fusion guitarist Coste Apetrea, whose gentle touch plays an important role in the band's music. M�ltid" from 1973 is Samla mammas manna's second album featuring now a guitarist in Coste Apetrea. That what mostly what I missed on their first record, and with the guitar, also a hugher concentration on the melodies takes form.

White Manna’s eponymous debut album was one of the surprises of last year. It crept in from nowhere, my own personal discovery of it coming from the recommendation of a friendly chap in a record store and ever since it’s been a regular tenant of the turntable. They didn’t go entirely unnoticed, however, the non-album track Kingdom Come being featured on Sonic Cathedral’s superb Psych For Sore Eyes split 7 release. There’s a grace to their music which comes from the uninhibited freedom to just write and create and it is this freedom that permeates every song. It’s music with the shackles off – unrestrained – the vision of the band becoming the experience of the listener, doing exactly what it should do.
