A Perfect Circle is an American rock supergroup formed in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan. A Perfect Circle has released four studio albums, the first three during the early 2000s: Mer de Noms, their debut album in 2000, and followed up by Thirteenth Step in 2003; then in 2004, Emotive-an album of radically re-worked cover songs.
The discography of American alternative rock supergroup A Perfect Circle consists of four studio albums, two compilation albums, one extended play, one video album, thirteen singles, one promotional single and thirteen music videos. A Perfect Circle is the brainchild of Billy Howerdel. After hearing demos of Howerdel's music, Maynard James Keenan, the lead singer of Tool, offered his services as vocalist. Howerdel agreed, and the band formed in 1999
A Perfect Circle's album of covers, eMOTIVe, falls flat and fails to raise the bar set so high by the quality of their previous two releases. Turning some of popular music's most potent songs into a soundtrack ideal for background music at your local teen-angst mall-chain clothing store, A Perfect Circle work their way through 12 songs that would almost be unrecognizable in their current arrangement if one weren't familiar with the original versions of each song.
Released November 1, 2004. 1. Annihilation Lyrics. eMOTIVe is the third album made by alternative rock/metal band A Perfect Circle. It was released on November 1, 2004, which in turn coincided with the . Presidential Election of that year. It consists of 10 covers of famous political songs, as well as 2 original songs, Passive and Counting Bodies like sheep to the rhythm of a war drum.
eMOTIVe is A Perfect Circle's third album, released on November 2, 2004. The album consists entirely of covers (including 10 political song covers, and 2 'original' songs which are also covers). Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums" is said to be the second part to the song "Pet", released in 2003 by A Perfect Circle on the album Thirteenth Step.
A Perfect Circle released their debut album, Mer de Noms, in 2000. Featuring the hit singles "Judith" and "3 Libras," Mer de Noms debuted in the Top Five of the Billboard 200 and eventually went platinum. The band opened Nine Inch Nails' Fragility Tour in 2000, but soon attracted their own headlining audience. Shortly after the release of eMOTIVe's companion DVD set aMOTION - which bundled the band's music videos along with a remix CD - A Perfect Circle went on a hiatus that would last over a decade. During their downtime, Keenan recorded albums with Tool and his solo project, Puscifer, while Howerdel started a new band, Ashes Divide. While rumors of the band writing songs cropped up now and again, A Perfect Circle returned (to the stage, at least) in 2010, and released a new song, "By and Down," on their 2013 greatest-hits compilation Three Sixty.
It's at this stage that A Perfect Circle enter our narrative, and with them comes their latest album, eMotive. In a way, the shock of this album was attenuated by the faint air of foreboding that was hanging over it. For a start, it's a cover album. While there may well be wonderful, earth-changing cover albums out there, it's probably fair to say that none immediately spring to mind. Leaving past commercial success aside for a minute, there's also the issue of creativity here
