This album and these Bluesbreakers mark the beginning of a new journey for me in 1968 - impossible to speak too highly of the musical contributions from the revised personnel - only one thing left to say - This is my story so let this music be my true voice. - John Mayall, 1968.
John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers was an English blues rock band, led by singer, songwriter, and t John Mayall, OBE. While never producing a radio-friendly hit on their own, the Bluesbreakers' greatest legacy is as an incubator for British rock and blues musicians.
Bare Wires was the first Bluesbreakers album of new studio material since A Hard Road, released 16 months before. In that time, the band had turned over entirely, expanding to become a septet. Mayall's musical conception had also expanded - the album began with a 23-minute "Bare Wires Suite," which included more jazz influences than usual and featured introspective lyrics. In retrospect, all of this is a bit indulgent, but at the time it helped Mayall out of what had come to seem a blues straitjacket (although he would eventually return to a strict blues approach).
Bare Wires was John Mayall's breakthrough album in the US. Released in 1968 in mixes blues, folk, jazz, R&B, progressive rock and even psychedelia. Mayall was in good company, and if his audience would have been baffled by ‘Bare Wires Suite’ a year earlier, tastes had changed and Mayall was now in a position to broaden his horizons. Mixing blues, folk, jazz, R&B, the nascent progressive rock and even a touch of psychedelia, the seven songs that make up the ‘Suite’ work well
Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton (. The Beano Album) is a 1966 blues/blues rock album recorded by John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton as part of the band. Clapton left to form Cream after this recording, though would team up again in 1971 for the double LP Back to the Roots.
