Vertigo" is a song by Irish rock band U2. It is the opening track on their eleventh studio album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (2004). It was released to radio as the album's lead single on 24 September 2004, and upon release, it received extensive airplay. The song was an international success, bolstered by its usage in a television advertisement featuring the band for Apple's iPod digital music player. The song lent its name to the band's 2005–2006 Vertigo Tour.

Vertigo is a sensation of dizziness or a feeling of disorientation. It can be a serious medical condition, but in the context of this song, it seems to be about opening your mind and looking at things in a different way. This was used in commercials as part of a big promotional deal with Apple. U2 made many high-profile appearances to promote the album, including performances on Saturday Night Live and the Grammy Awards. In the late '80s and early '90s, U2 often stayed away from these kind of appearances to avoid the feeling of commercialism, but by the 2000s, it became clear that these appearances were crucial if U2 was going to continue selling millions of albums and fill arenas.

Vertigo was the first single released from U2’s How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb album. If first took shape during the How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb recording sessions as a song called Full Metal Jacket, and later Native Son. When Steve Lillywhite was brought in as producer mid-way through the recording process, he asked Bono if he’d be able to sing the lyrics to Native Son in a live setting. Two CD versions were released in most regions.
