Langgaard, Gitta-Maria Sjöberg, Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra & Choir, Gennady Rozhdestvensky – Music of the Spheres, Four Tone Pictures (First Recordings). Label: Chandos – CHAN 9517. Music of the Spheres. Chorus – Danish National Radio Choir Chorus Master, Conductor – Jesper Grove Jørgensen.
Langgaard: Music of the Spheres, 4 Tone Pictures. Langgaard: Sinfonia Interna for Choir and Orchestra. Music of the Spheres (1916-18) predates Gyorgy Ligeti by 50 years with its bright, pointillistic assertions and groups of ideas that evolve to their own inner logic. As demonstrated in Tonebilleder (Four Tone Pictures), Langgaard's music has an openness that allows his tone clusters to expand, contract, or simply repeat (as Ligeti would do much later).
Music of the Spheres - 'Like the twinkling of a pearl of dew in the sun on a beautiful summer's morn. Music of the Spheres - 'Like light and the depths'. Music of the Spheres - 'The end: Antichrist - Christ'.
Danish National Choir/DR, Danish National Symphony Orchestra/DR, Gennady Rozhdestvensky. Music of the Spheres (1916-18) is probably Langgaard's most important – certainly most original – work. Gramophone Classical Music Guide, 2010 Mor. atalogue No: CHAN9517.
The first recording of Music of the Spheres was made in 1968 at the Nordic Music Days in Stockholm with Berit Lindholm (soprano), Akademiska Kören (The Stockholm Academic Choir), and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Sergiu Comissiona. A 22-minute excerpt of the work was released on LP the following year by HMV/EMI (CSDS 1087). Another two recordings, until the present moment, were released with Gitta-Maria Sjöberg, Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Gennady Rozhdestvensky, by Chandos CHAN 9517 (1997), and another with Inger Dam Jensen, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Choir and Danish National Vocal Ensemble, conducted by Thomas Dausgaard (Dacapo . 20535, 2010), both setting the complete work. BBC Radio 3. Retrieved 15 December 2015. Viinholt Nielsen, Bendt.
Music of the Spheres (Danish: Sfærernes Musik) is a composition by Rued Langgaard, written in 1916–18 and scored for orchestra, choir, organ, a "distant" orchestra, and a soprano soloist.

Four Tone Pictures Gitta-Maria Sjoberg (soprano) Danish National Radio SO, Gennady Rozhdestvensky Chandos CHAN 9517. Friday 28 March 1997 01:02. This new recording serves the music marvellously - Music of the Spheres is perfect Rozhdestvensky territory - and so does the recording, with its fine sense of space and focus. The Four Tone Pictures are relatively slight and much less original, though Langgaard's voice is still recognisable, and again they're beautifully played and sung. Anyone interested in 20th-century music should hear this. Langgaard was virtually ignored in his own adult life; perhaps his time has come. We’ll tell you what’s true.

It is characteristic of Langgaard's fate that he should end up as the organist at Ribe Cathedral isolated from the swim of Denmark's musical life. There are circa 400 works including seven quartets and sixteen symphonies. Many of these works have now been recorded.
