Necrophobic is a Swedish Death Metal band formed in 1989 by drummer Joakim Sterner and guitarist David Parland. It is believed that the band named themselves after a Slayer song from Reign in Blood. During the underground years 1990-1992, the band built up a great reputation with the demo tapes Slow Asphyxiation (1990), Unholy Prophecies (1991) and the limited vinyl-ep The Call (1992). After a one song rehearsal this is their second demo Slow Asphyxiation, heavily inspired by early Sodom and Slayer with hints of Possessed. Slow Asphyxiation demo from 1990 is first and music wise it’s very different to the future style of Necrophobic. It’s more death, thrash metal oriented, with influence from early Death, Possessed, Kreator, Slayer, Massacra, early Pestilence – it really reminds me Vader from their demos he, h. here already was David Parland together with Joakim Sterner in the line up, while the vocals and bass were handled by a guy called Stefan Zander, who only lasted one year in the band. Any fan of old Swedish death metal ought to be familiar with Necrophobic's classic album "The Nocturnal Silence," a ripping death metal album with a blackened outer crust and a strong grasp of melody. This compilation of the demos they recorded beforehand illustrates the band's evolution, but also shows quite nicely how good they were almost from the start.
