The Critics Group, also known as The London Critics Group, was a group of people who met to explore 'how best to apply the techniques of folk-music and drama to the folk revival' under the direction of Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger, with some participation from Bert Lloyd and Charles Parker. Running for eight years from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s, it was not a conventional musical group or band as it had no permanent line-up.
Side Two The Female Frolic (trad) – FA vocal, PS concertina, JW guitar, SK whistle Children’s Songs – All the Boys in our Town (SK)/I built my lady a Fine Brick House (PS)/Collier Lads (SK & guitar)/Broken-hearted I Wander (SK, FA)/The Lady from Leigh (FA, SK) All Around the Shoe Round – PS. .It is with the attempts of this latter group to delineate some of the many aspects of woman’s life that this record is concerned. In the late 1950s, the British folk song revival grew out of the craze for American skiffle and, at first, singers tended to base their repertoires on the folk-songs and blues of North America.
The Critics Group (also known as the London Critics Group) started out as a study group for singers in 1963, meeting at Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger's home in Beckenham. Source: Folkcatalogue's Blog. John Faulkner & Sandra Kerr appear on all of The Critics Group's recordings. Terry Yarnell appears on all recordings but, Female Frolic. Other singers (musicians) appearing on The.

The Critics Group evolved into a performance ensemble seeking to perform satirical songs in a mixture of theatre, comedy and song, which eventually created a series of annual productions called "The Festival of Fools" (named for a traditional British Isles event in which greater freedom of expression was allowed for the subjects of the king than was permitted during most of the year). The album was released in June 2013. Seeger's memoir, "First Time Ever: A Memoir" was published by Faber & Faber in October 2017.
