Arsen Dedić was born in Šibenik, in the Littoral Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, today Šibenik-Knin County, in region of Dalmatia, within Republic of Croatia, as the second child of Jovan Dedić and Veronika (née Mišković). His father Jovan was ethnic Serb, an Serbian Orthodox Christian, while his mother Veronika (nicknamed Jelka) was Croat Arsen also has a daughter Sandra, from his first marriage with Vesna Suligoj, a niece of Croatian one of the best poet of Croatia, Antun Gustav Matoš.
