Robert Hunter Caldwell (born August 15, 1951) is an American singer and songwriter who recorded the hit single "What You Won't Do for Love" in 1978. After several R&B and smooth jazz albums, Caldwell turned to singing standards from the Great American Songbook. He maintains a loyal following in Japan. Bobby Caldwell was born in Manhattan but grew up in Miami. His mother sold real estate, and one of her clients was reggae singer Bob Marley; Caldwell and Marley became friends.

This 1978 album was Bobby Caldwell's first-I believe it was originally a self-titled effort, and that the title was changed to "What You Won't Do for Love" when the song of the same name became a hit. There is some great stuff here, but unfortunately, it seems that Caldwell just didn't have enough material and/ or was in a hurry to meet a deadline, because there is a considerable amount of blatant filler, including overlong fades, & the album runs less than 35 minutes in the first place. Plus, the funk-flavored love ballad "Can't Say Goodbye" is really let down by the overwrought vocals, lame lyrics, & the excessive, overlong fade. The super mellow album closer "Down For The Third Time" has cool, jazzy guitar, & it's an infectiously catchy tune, but it has a fade that's really long, really repetitive, and really dull. Got the Bobby Caldwell playing on the vinyl, word is bond so what I say is final"!

Bobby Caldwell stands as an incredibly underrated vocalist. The leadoff track from Caldwell's 1980 album Cat in the Hat, this one's a sleeper pick. Hidden away in a relatively short record (there were only eight songs), "Coming Down From Love" displays how fluidly Caldwell moves through a song. He just seems to float from one rhyme to the next, making the entire piece flow smoothly. When Caldwell's Stuck on You album released, nobody seemed to notice this beautiful tune that was hidden in the back half of the track list. Solid Ground" easily blew the rest of the record out of the water. Musically, it has a sound that doesn't seem like typical Caldwell, which makes the song stand out.
