Horror and drama soundtracks are old hat for Christopher Young - having wielded the manuscript paper for such films as The Fly II, Copycat, and Rounders - and he's back on the scene, with a sweepingly dramatic (and sentimental?) chip on his shoulder, for 2007's Ghost Rider. Soaring French horns and ominous, low-register male choral bits provide the meat for the theme, while heavy metal guitars and drums punctuate the action sequences.

Born on 28th April 1957 in Redbank, New Jersey, Young graduated from Hampshire College in Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts in music, and then did postgraduate work at North Texas State University. In 1980 he moved to Los Angeles. A jazz drummer at first, hearing some of Bernard Herrmann's works convinced him to be a film composer. At the UCLA Film School, he studied under David Raskin. Christopher Young has done it again with the sequel score for Grudge 2. It is big improvement over the original which was too string reliant and emulated Penderecki's Kanon for 52 Orchestra and Tape. This time Young utilizes asian woodwinds to capture the japanese origins of the tale. This was one of the opportunities that was missed during the first film's scoring duties.
