Great Unwashed - It's A Day. faint hopes. The Clean, The Great Unwashed ‎– Odditties 2", 1988 Live at Windsor Hotel, AK 1984.

For most of the 1980s, The Clean were disbanded; during this time, the Kilgour brothers worked together on an experimental album and EP with the deliberately punny titles "The Great Unwashed" and "Clean Out of Our Minds". In 2003, the two-disc compilation Anthology, released on Merge Records, awakened new interest in the band in the US, building on an international reputation that had been enhanced by endorsements from prominent &apos.

The Great Unwashed’s Clean Out Of Our Minds followed in September 1983. Clearly there was plenty of creative gas left in the Kilgour’s tank as songs such as ‘Small Girl’, ‘What U Should Be Now’, ‘Hold On To The Rail’, ‘Obscurity Blues’ and ‘Quickstep’ showed. David Kilgour would remember the album as really sloppy. It’s like its always falling apart but somehow keeps going. The EP title, a cheeky reference to an early Grateful Dead album, showed that The Clean’s insight and humour was still intact. Nor was their songbook depleted, as three of their final compositions’ ‘Caveman’, ‘Two Fat Sisters’ and ‘At The Bottom’ showed. A second Odditties tape in 1988 gathered up the remaining odds and sods from The Clean and The Great Unwashed. Which would have been a good place to end it, but The Clean were about to find one hell of a second wind. For part two of The Clean story, please go here.

2. A term to refer to anyone who is common and or stupid in their ways. Can also be applied to a person who follows 'the crowd' and dosen't have a mind of their own. Being lazy, a moocher and lacking a college education M. Rehmeyer was considered as one of 'the great unwashed' by the higher echelons of society. by Rnotbscot February 12, 2008.

An alternate take of "Getting Older" is the first truly great one of the bunch, a te winner with the right sense of hooks, just enough melancholia amidst the fun (David Kilgour's guitar work is particularly great) and lines like "Why don't you do yourself in?" A number of songs have a lighter acoustic touch, but still sound like they're bubbling up through the depths, as "End of My Dream," the amusing lament "David Bowie" and the wistful but warning "Inside Ou.
