Gal Costa is the first solo album by the Brazilian singer Gal Costa, released in 1969. It was ranked the 80th best Brazilian album of all time by the Brazilian Rolling Stone magazine. Considered one of the most representative records of the countercultural Tropicália movement, the album features songwriting by various artist associated with the movement, with whom Costa had previously worked with in the 1968 collaboration album Tropicália: ou Panis et Circencis.

The album begins with a flutter of psychedelic echo effects, dissolving into gloriously lush string arrangements and lighthearted organ on "Nao Identificado," a brilliant opening track that introduces Costa's velvety voice, gently at first, as if to ease the listener into the new sounds about to be revealed. Softly glowing chamber pop arrangements like "Lost in Paradise" melt into unchained grooves and buzzing fuzz guitar bug-outs like the Gilberto Gil-aided "Namorinho de Portão" and the child-like singsonginess of "Divino Maravilhoso.

ndia is the fourth studio album by Brazilian singer Gal Costa, released on 1973 by Philips Records. Its major hits were "Índia", "Volta" and "Desafinado". ndia is an MPB album, with influences from tropicália, folk, psychedelic, jazz, funk and rock. The artwork depicts Gal Costa semi-nude with indigenous Brazilian vests. It was originally censored by the Brazilian military government, but the full artwork was released by Costa in 2015.

Album · 1969 · 12 Songs. Though there are still traces of bossa nova on Gal Costa’s sophomore album, it’s mostly a chance to marvel at how effortlessly (and beautifully) she pairs with tropicália’s strikingly chromatic soundscapes. The fuzzy guitars on Namorinho de Portão, the celestial strings on Baby, the manic percussion on Sebastiana -she powers through them with gusto and drama. A lesser singer may have gotten lost in the haze of American rock 'n' roll, British psychedelia, and Brazilian rhythms, but Costa thrives.
