Kalapana are an American rock band from Honolulu, Hawaii. They are known for their songs "Naturally" and "The Hurt". In 1973, childhood friends David John (DJ) Pratt and Carl James Malani Bilyeu auditioned at the Rainbow Villa for Cecilio & Kapono. Malani was soloing at the Oar House in Hawaii Kai and DJ was downstairs at Chuck's in Sunlight with Kirk Thompson. They got together in DJ's grandfather's garage with Bryant Mackey Feary, another solo act, playing at the Oar House.

The artwork of this release is nearly identical to the 1988 reissue from GROOV-IT Kalapana with a few changes. CD insert is a 4-panel insert that is blank on the inside. No lyrics are included. On the rear panel of the CD jacket, the credits have been reset with a serif typeface and the record label/Category has been omitted. On the CD face, the Label and Catalog number have been changed from GROOV-IT to OTB.
