Solid jams with anthemic riffs from Queens, New York. There’s far more than meets the ear at first. This record avoids the generic monotony of gruff bro pop punk, and steers more into the direction of being a little more musical, with thoughtful guitar leads and a killer vocal performance. Definitely something for fans of current sad, nuanced, wall-of-sound melodic punk like VACATION to check out.

Collecting Misery' is a well written record with loads of really good ideas and awesome riffs, that will be glued to the inside of your skull, rattering around your brain like a tidal wave of awesome. Definitely a band to keep on your radar. Apple Music this site. Debut Record featuring Robbie Swartwood from ‘Off With Their Heads’ on vocals. Musically this record sounds killer, but I feel that the vocals are just not strong enough to help this record stand out.
From the start of Collecting Misery it’s clear that Nadir is one of those bands fronted by someone who is usually on a different instrument. Sure, the DIY production also influences the sound, but the vocals are just a bit less fluid than in most bands. It’s not a slight against the band, just that it sounds a little less comfortable. That characteristic has its own kind of charm. Without delving too deep into a heavy subject, everything about this, from band name to the album title to the eight tracks within it, are about dealing with depression and the its complications. It’s clear that Swartwood has dealt with the affliction in his personal life and, undoubtedly, anyone reading this has too. While Swartwood’s voice doesn’t have a lot of range, the record itself does. There are the poppy jams that fans would expect, but also heavier songs like Buried Above Ground and acoustic songs like Collecting Misery.
