Die Geschichte der Popmusik - Early Punk And Bubblegum, Vol. 17 ‎(CD, Comp, Club).

The Early Years is a two-part retrospective album series of Tom Waits songs, consisting of recordings made before Waits's actual debut album Closing Time. Volume One was released in 1991 and Volume Two was released in 1993 on Bizarre/Straight. The recordings were made between July and December 1971. Some of the songs on the album appear on the early albums Waits recorded for Asylum Records. Both volumes were released on vinyl in 2010 by Manifesto Records.

One of a handful of bubblegum collections from Varese Sarabande, Bubblegum Classics, Vol. 2 mainly charts Buddah Records' pop output from 1969-1971. According to the liner notes, Buddah was the originator and prime purveyor of the sticky stuff - an askew incarnation of Brill Building pop, if you will - during the music's limited three-year run. The Brill connection is substantiated here with tracks penned by staff/alumni Neil Diamond (the Monkees' "I'm a Believer") and Jeff Barry (Bobby Bloom's "Montego Bay"), not. 4. When Julie Comes Around.

Early punk rock bands such as Ramones, Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, and the Undertones all had strong sense of melody, taking some cues from pop rock and power pop. In the early–mid 1980s, punk rock bands like Descendents combined punk rock and hardcore punk with pop-influenced melodies and lyrical themes involving humor, girls, and teenage confusion. 1980s punk bands like Bad Religion influenced later pop punk music. and late 1960s bubblegum pop, the Ramones paved the way to what became known as pop punk. The Ramones' loud and fast melodic minimalism differentiated them from other bands in New York City's budding art rock scene, but pop punk was not considered a separate subgenre until later.

60 tracks of the finest slices of JSG in its various guises, as established by collectors around the world over the past decade. DON’T LET GO – Rats 15. SHE’S NOT MY LOVER – Cole Younger 16. ROXY ROLLER – Sweeney Todd featuring Brian Guy Adams 17. BOYS WILL BE BOYS – Taste 18. GET OUTTA MY HOUSE – Hustler 19.

2 is new and improved, though, and it has consistent production throughout (read as: not a single song that sounds like it was actually recorded in the '90s). Here's the full rundown. Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! don't take themselves too seriously, so their playful cover of Smash Mouth's All Star is actually one of the best inclusions. They lightly personalize an otherwise true-to-form cover with turntables, pop-chugs and a quickie breakdown. It's charmingly corny. The Color Morale tackle Foo Fighters' Everlong in a tasteful way that gives us a window into.

I mean this album itself can't even differentiate between genres - R&B, hip-hop etc - and just labels everything as pop. That said, not many excuses can be made for Punk Goes Pop Vol. 7 because at the end of the day, no matter how you polish it, it's still. Starting with the good, Boston Manor ("Heathens" by Twenty One Pilots), Seaway ("Closer" by The Chainsmokers) and Grayscale ("Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber) are fun pop-punk takes on the originals. In fact, they make them even better (which isn't that high a bar to raise)  . Punk Goes Pop Vol. 7 tries but doesn't even come close. Hopefully the next year churns out better acts for them to cover next year. Fingers crossed, right?
