It peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and at number 11 on the Billboard 200. It has been certified Platinum by the RIAA since October 11, 1994. Several songs heard in the movie, such as Got to Give It Up by Marvin Gaye and Love and Happiness by Al Green, were not included in the soundtrack album
