From the opera he has also fashioned Wenn Du dem Win. the concert suite which opens this disc. Although beginning and ending with a single line from a solo harp, throughout its course takes the listener through the extremes of love, war and the demands of inflexible laws. Natascha Petrinsky, mezzo-soprano Carolin Widmann, violin Nicolas Hodges, piano Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire Pascal Rophe, conductor.

A meeting with Capuçon some time later inspired him to pick it up again and finish it in 2011. The work can be seen as a struggle between emerging light (the violin) and menacing shadows (the orchestra)  . Interview with Renaud Capuçon, Cadences. fr, Laurent Vilarem, January 2015.

Natascha Petrinsky (mez). Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire. Pascal Rophé Conductor. quia - Concerto for Piano & Orchestra. Author: Richard Whitehouse. Carolin Widmann yields to Renaud Capuçon in finesse but her tonal poise and incisive projection make for a more involving listen. quia (2002) puts emphasis on the absence (or inability) of response, as piano and orchestra vie for supremacy over respectively strident then agitated movements, before the soloist assumes control over the finale prior to a climactic confrontation. Nicolas Hodges finds greater subtlety than Ian Pace here, for all the latter’s trenchancy beforehand.

German violinist Carolin Widmann has maintained a top-flight career in central Europe and in Britain, manifesting a strong commitment to contemporary music while offering choice, connoisseur-label interpretations of mainstream repertory works. Musica viva, Vol. 26: Salvatore Sciarrino. Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. Julian Anderson: In lieblicher Blaue, Alleluia & The Stations of the Sun. London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Featuring Nicolas Hodges, Natascha Petrinsky, and Carolin Widmann. BIS RecordsVideosOUT TODAY: November 2018.
