Austin Cromer, soulful jazz singer. Sang with the Ravens in the 1950's and then had a stint singing with Dizzie Gillespie between 1956 and 1957 with whom he recorded a memorable version "Over The Rainbow". After this he disappeared until being signed by Atlantic whom he recorded the "Austin Cromer Sings For Her" album before fading back into obscurity.

Not so much as a picture! And so it was with great excitement, that his only album on Atlantic, 'Sings For Her,' has been released on CD, as a Japanese import! This album, finds Austin in fine form, a decade after his stint with Dizzy. Most of the selections are ballads, but Austin can still hit those money notes, that make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. The recording is crisp and intimate.

Evelyn Baring, 1st Earl of Cromer GCB OM GCMG KCSI CIE PC FRS (/ˈkroʊmər/; 26 February 1841 – 29 January 1917), was a British statesman, diplomat and colonial administrator. He was British controller-general in Egypt during 1879, part of the international Control which oversaw Egyptian finances after the 1876 Egyptian bankruptcy. He later became the agent and consul-general in Egypt from 1883 to 1907 during the British occupation prompted by the 'Urabi revolt.
