Sparkle is the 1998 self–titled debut album by American singer, Sparkle. It was released on May 20, 1998 through Interscope Records and was entirely produced by her former mentor R. Kelly. The album was a success in large part to the Sparkle-R. Kelly duet "Be Careful", which peaked at 3 on the Rhythmic Top 40 and 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. The album itself peaked at 3 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold on December 7, 2000.

Sparkle first started singing in her family's gospel music group. Sparkle met singer R. Kelly while he was working on a male artist in 1989. Sparkle was the first and only successful artist to release an album on Kelly's Rockland label. Sparkle's début album, the self-titled Sparkle, was released on May 19, 1998. success of her début album, Sparkle and R. Kelly began to have creative differences while working on her second album, which led to her asking to be released from Rockland/Interscope. She then signed with Motown Records, where she would release her second album Told You So in 2000. However, the album didn't do as well because of lack of promotion, only making it to 121 on the Billboard 200, while scoring a minor hit with the single "It's a Fact".
