The Original Golden Hits Series was billed as "Mercury's Golden Dozen Hit Albums. It was undoubtedly issued in response to the best selling oldies series of the time from Original Sound Records (Oldies But Goodies) and Roulette Records (Golden Goodies). The two "Original Golden Hits" albums released in 1963 were Original Golden Hits of the Great Groups and Original Golden Hits of the Great Blues Singers [Mercury MG 20826/SR 60826. Greatest of the Delta Blues Singers is the debut album by the American blues singer Skip James, released in 1965. It was his first album released after his rediscovery in 1964. James had recorded for the Paramount label in the 1930s without success. He was "rediscovered" in 1964 by the blues enthusiasts John Fahey, Bill Barth and Henry Vestine who found him in a hospital in Tunica, Mississippi.
