Washes Whiter Than is the third studio album by the Christian rock band Petra. It was released in 1979 amidst major line-up changes that saw all but one of the founding band members leave. The album features a more mellow style when compared to the band's two previous efforts. Part of the reason for this is that the group wanted to get away from the controversy surrounding the hard rock style of their earlier releases.

Washes whiter than is a little slower but it does show the softer side until they perfected their sound then out comes Never Say Die!!!!! This one set the stage for the awesome list of albums that came out after it!!!!! You can definately hear the progression as they went from one time period to another!!! . I have enjoyed all of Petra's music except for two songs. The group is very scripturally sound and is great to listen to. I just wish the Washes Whiter Than part contained two songs which are missing from the CD and mp3 download.
