1980’s Grace and Danger is where guitarist John Martyn chronicles the dissolution of his marriage to wife Beverley, with whom he’d recorded several albums. The album so disturbed the label president that its release was delayed a year. Always a great technical player, Martyn infused tough, often uncomfortable emotion into these songs of obvious pain and frustration. Some People Are Crazy opens with tight accompaniment that underscores the somber events.

During the divorce from his wife Beverly, John Martyn wrote and recorded songs which reflected his strong and emotional upheaval that he was experiencing at the time. These songs were so personal and unsettling that Island Records didn't want to release the album at first and waited for a year to do so. Right from the start Martyn sets a somber feel with the seductive 'Some People Are Crazy' and he continues with beautiful tracks as 'Sweet Little Mystery', tormented blues of 'Hurt In Your Heart' and he ends with the heartbreaking track 'Our Love'

Following a short layoff, John Martyn returned with his 12th record (including two with wife Beverley and a best-of collection), Grace & Danger. The album, which finds Martyn fronting a tight quartet featuring Phil Collins on drums and backing vocals, paints a stark, painful portrait of Martyn and Beverley's crumbling marriage. Close friend and Island Records president Chris Blackwell reportedly found the songs so personal and unsettling that he delayed its release for a year
