Classic Funk - Definitive Funk Mastercuts Volume 2. Various Artists. Classic Mastercuts Rare Groove Volume 2. It is possibly the smoothest cum cheesiest album I have ever heard and could fall into the genre 'elevator music'. I absoloutly love this albim, with my favourite track being the River Niger by Roy Ayers. The beginning of this track has the ice cool Mr Ayers explaining to his child the history of the river Niger only for it to eventually slip into and equally cool bass line.
The Mastercuts label's great Classic Jazz-Funk series kicked off in 1991, and like the other volumes released throughout the '90s, the sixth volume more or less concentrates on the '70s end of jazz-funk as opposed to the form's beginnings during the '60s.
