De Pauls own versions of both of two songs would be found as tracks on her debut album, Surprise. In an interview with Cash Box, in early 1972, Don Kirshner said We are looking for another Carole King and we think we found her in Lynsey Rubin.

De Paul recorded her own version of the song as the B-side to her first single "Sugar Me" on the MAM record label a few months later. The single was a hit in the UK, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and Australia "Storm in a Teacup" has been covered by other artists, notably the Tremeloes, Tony Hatch and His Orchestra, Alan Caddy Orchestra And Singers, Steven Smith and Father,[14.
