UPDATE: "Sony Music Entertainment sent a cease and desist letter to Amerigo Gazaway concerning its album ''A Bizarre Tribe: A Quest to the Pharcyde," alleging among other things that this album incorporated sound recordings owned by Sony Music, including sound recordings which embody the musical performances. Amerigo Gazaway has denied any infringement and maintains that the Bizarre Tribe album is protected as fair use.

The Pharcyde (pronounced "far side") is an American alternative hip hop group, formed in 1989, from South Central Los Angeles. The original four members of the group are Imani (Emandu Wilcox), Slimkid3 (Trevant Hardson), Bootie Brown (Romye Robinson), and Fatlip (Derrick Stewart). DJ Mark Luv was the group's first disc jockey (DJ), followed by producer J-Swift and then J Dilla.

This CD combines the previously vinyl-only instrumental versions of the Pharcyde's Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde and Labcabincalifornia (though three cuts from the latter are sacrificed for the sake of space). Unsurprisingly, these productions - J-Swift handled the bulk of the first album, while a very young Jay Dee did the honors on most of the follow-up - have held up tremendously well and don't need any vocals to make an impact. Also of note is "Groupie Therapy," a prime Diamond D production.

Fantastic album! A must have for Tribe lovers. It has much more tribe influences and sounds than it does Pharcyde, especially this being the instrumental version.
