Lucky is the fifth album by alternative rock band Nada Surf. It was released on Barsuk in 2008
The discography of Nada Surf, a New York-based alternative rock group, consists of seven studio albums, thirteen singles and one extended play (EP). Nada Surf was formed in 1992 and consists of Matthew Caws (guitar, vocals), Daniel Lorca (bass, backup vocals), Ira Elliot (drums, backup vocals), and Doug Gillard (lead guitar). Out Of The Dark"- "You Know Who You Are" (2016). Where Is My Mind? Tribute to the Pixies (Contributing "Where Is My Mind?") - Glue Factory - 1999.
Let Go is the third album by alternative rock band, Nada Surf. It was released on Barsuk in 2002. Entertainment Weekly raved, "A dozen near-perfect pop songs, each one teeming with joyful desperation". Let Go reached on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart, and the single for "Inside of Love" reached in the United Kingdom.
Nada Surf spent the first half of the 2000s making subdued rainy day records, which makes Lucky seem downright sunny (if not supernova bright) in comparison. There are some particularly luminous moments here, including the back-to-back punch of "Whose Authority" and "Beautiful Beat," where the songs immediately unleash their hooks and sustain that energy for minutes.

So 2008's Lucky sees them plying their trade in as workmanlike a fashion as ever, just with a far better hit:miss ratio than ever before. Melodic and largely major acoustic guitars winding uncomplicated time signatures around plugged-in ones and a background rhythm section which succeeds in rendering what comes in front of it senselessly upbeat; vocalist Matthew Caws' lyrics are pretty, quotable and even somewhat inspirational, but they're hardly deep. These songs mean something, but they don't mean everything.
Nada Surf's fifth album reveals a few new tricks up the New York trio's sleeve. They're growing up. More than just another indie-pop album, Lucky is deeply reflective – age has a way of doing that to a body – even a little optimistic. Opener "See These Bones" is a poignant and ultimately cheerful song about facing one's mortality, while "Beautiful Beat" starts out like an upbeat popper until singer Matthew Caws pipes up with, "Leave me alone, and no one will get hurt
