David Laibman & Eric Schoenberg - The New Ragtime Guitar album flac

Eric Schoenberg is an American guitarist known for his fingerstyle guitar playing, as well as a recording artist and designer of acoustic guitars. He owns Eric Schoenberg Guitars, a guitar store in Tiburon, California, which sells vintage and luthier-made acoustic guitars. Eric and his cousin Dave Laibman were among the first transposers of classical piano ragtime to the guitar. This resulted in their album, Contemporary Ragtime Guitar, on Folkways Records. David Laibman and Eric Schoenberg. Recorded in 1971, The New Ragtime Guitar represented a new instrumental take on ragtime piano music. While many guitar players had incorporated ragtime pieces into their style, the limitations of a single guitar prevented a faithful recreation of the music originally written for, and performed by, a full piano keyboard.

With Eric Schoenberg, Laibman recorded The New Ragtime Guitar for Folkways Records in 1970. His solo album, Classical Ragtime Guitar, was released by Rounder Records in 1980. Laibman has worked with a variety of artists in the early folk world, using his advanced finger picking technique. One notable album is "Way Out West" by Scottish Folksinger Alex Campbell, in 1963. Of note is the track "Orange Blossom Special" which showcases the talent that Laibman was developing. He issued a DVD, Guitar Artistry of David Laibman Stefan Grossman Guitar Workshop, 2007.
