Waiting for This to Happen, Glistering - Single 2012. Drastic Measures, Drastic Movement, the band's debut album, followed later in the year, and offered more lean, mechanical sketches and abrasive noise diversions. After a handful of gigs in support of Joy Division and the release of a live EP, Minny Pops joined the Factory roster and, during 1981 and 1982, bounced between Factory proper and Factory's secondary Benelux division. A re-recording of "Dolphin's Spurt," produced by Martin Hannett and engineered by Chris Nagle, appeared in 1981, while the relatively slicker album Sparks in a Dark Room came the following year.

Minny Pops, which van Middendorp originally intended to be a project for just three performances, had an initial lineup of van Middendorp, bass guitarist Frans Hagenaars, guitarist Peter Mertens, and two dancers, including van Middendorp's older brother, Rob. Minny Pops are now touring and recording again. Performances in the UK in January of this year were received enthusiastically (they play London for the Quietus on November 26th), and were for some, near-revelatory; and dates in the Netherlands in April were sold out, the stuff of which pop mythology is made. Wally Van Middendorp joins us to talk about the rise, disintegration and rise again of Minny Pops. Many people who know about Minny Pops would have heard of you through Factory Records. How did that scene happen? WvM: Every city had their own little iteration of punk. Rotterdam had a completely different scene to Amsterdam, for example. Minny Pops play for the Quietus and O Genesis at London's Lexington on Monday November 26th. Support comes from Pavlov's Children and a reading of Ian Rankin's short story A Little Bit Of Powder, recorded for O Genesis.

Waiting for the Punchline is Extreme's fourth album, which was released in 1995. It is known by fans as a distinctively raw sounding record - especially when compared to the big production of the two previous albums - with a significant influence from grunge, while still showcasing guitarist Nuno Bettencourt's talents. Due to its lyrics focused heavily on social matters (ranging from religion to fame) it is often cited as a concept album.
