Beak (stylized BEAK and also named Recordings 05/01/09 17/01/09) is the self-titled debut studio album by British band Beak, released by the label Invada in October 2009. It was improvised and recorded in a twelve-day period without any overdubbing or repair.

EkEm EKEM creates music of the moment based on improvisation, inspired by jazz, electro and rock but also by contemporary music. The duo builds a personal universe coming from the sensations of the present moment. At times descriptive or abstract, at times lyrical or rhythmic, dense or refined, their music plays in either total freedom.

These excursions are so dark and spare that they feel oddly timeless, as though they could just as easily come from some dust-covered, decades-lost cult album as from the 2000s. Krautrock is a major influence, and the band really knows its way around a Motorik groove, especially on Backwell, which opens the album with a slow-building jam that dips in and out of minor-key territory

BEAK were formed in January 2009 by three Bristol musicians, Billy Fuller, Matt Williams and Geoff Barrow. The band have very strict guidelines governing the recording and writing process of their work. All tracks were written over a twelve-day session in SOA Studio’s, Bristol.
