Osamu Kitajima (喜多嶋 修), also known by the pseudonym Justin Heathcliff, is a Japanese musician, producer, composer, and multi‑instrumentalist. After studying the classical guitar and the piano as a child, in the 1960s Kitajima was a member of his cousin Yūzō Kayama's band The Launchers.

Benzaiten ‎(LP, Album). I have never liked fusion, but this is a really beautiful record. Better than anyone else I've ever heard Kitajima blends traditional Japanese instruments and musical scales with contemporary rock instruments and psych or free form jazz compositions. He does so unironically and without the heavy-handed instrument clashing that is often pervasive in fusion. I think the reason is because it seems he has studied how to merge Japanese and Western instruments harmoniously. As a result, his compositions seem organic, natural, and never out of place
