The early Seattle grunge album Skin Yard recorded in 1987 by the band of the same name included fuzz bass (overdriven bass guitar) played by Jack Endino and Daniel House  . Grunge lyrics developed as part of "Generation X malaise", reflecting that demographic's feelings of "disillusionment and uselessness" failed, boring, doomed or destructive relationships. "Black" by Pearl Jam). The Alice in Chains songs "Dirt" and "Hate to Feel" have references to heroin. Grunge lyrics tended to be more introspective

Generation Grunge ist DIE Tribute Band, die beste der 90er Jahre! . Not Now. CommunitySee all.

There was a whole new generation of . fans turned on by their more visible early ’90s albums, and an older one that never accepted the group’s embrace of pop stardom. weren’t just engaging with the sounds of the decade. They acted as big brothers to bands they’d previously inspired, from Radiohead over in the UK to Nirvana in the States. Though Local H had been, in various forms, a band since the dawn of grunge, they were also one of the groups who came around with their debut after the fact. By the time you get to their sophomore album As Good As Dead in 1996, grunge as we knew it was pretty much over. Soundgarden and Screaming Trees and Alice In Chains were approaching their final albums (for the time), Cobain had been dead for years, and Pearl Jam were about to fire off into the wilderness.

10 Essential Grunge Albums. From 'Deep Six' to 'Dirt'. Alice in Chains' Layne Staley, 1993. Some will forever blame grunge for, at least temporarily, killing thrash and glam metal in the Nineties. No matter how you look at it, grunge was a revolutionary form of heaviosity that resonated hard with a generation (and generations after) and changed the worlds of music, fashion, and more. From opener "Them Bones" to classics like "Rooster," "Would?" and "Down in a Hole," the album is filled with exceptional songwriting, dirge-y riffs and downtrodden lyricism that hit audiences hard then and still resonates strongly with them now - and forever. Nirvana, 'Nevermind'. Nevermind kicks off with the immortal four-chord guitar intro of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" that introduced grunge to the masses.

Grunge seemed to be more like an attitude or a philosophy, and it was gaining steam by piggy-backing on the rising popularity of ‘Alternative’ Rock. Most bands that made their bones from 1987 to 1994 (as ‘College Rock’ exploded into the mainstream) could probably be considered, at least in part, contributors to the ‘Grunge Movement’. Throughout the 1980s Sonic Youth (left) & . M (middle) were responsible for gradually ushering in the sound of Alternative rock. What happened to rock music in the 70s and 80s was a stripping down of the various elements of this new creative culture. Sometimes a style was carried forward without including the core beliefs that were associated with its inception. A simple example of this is how ‘Glam rock’, after sprouting out of ‘Psychedelic Rock’, evolved into ‘Hair Metal’. I’m not trying to knock Hair Metal here, I’ll save that for another article.
