Curiously, The Kingsbury Manx released a separate five-song effort, Afternoon Owls, a mere month before Aztec Discipline's release, comprised of sturdy, well-seasoned and multi-textured efforts, with a near perfect pitch. Though a commonly propagated conviction, if narrowed down to an EP's worth of material and collated with the best of Afternoon Owls, a near perfect album is quietly tucked away. As is, the mirth we're left to soak in is as high a yield as most efforts in this sonic realm: smooth, relaxed, and rustic music put together with tender lovin' care.

The Kingsbury Manx are an American indie rock group from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The original members of The Kingsbury Manx met in middle school. They then attended different colleges and reunited during the summer months to play and record together. One of their demos caught the ear of Chicago-based label Overcoat Recordings, who issued their debut self-titled album in 2000.

The Manx don't quite switch to autopilot here, but nor do they push the boundaries of their lia/pastoral-pop meld. And, lovely though the album is, Pelz Komet's urgent exhortation, "Don't wait another second/Take a step in that direction", is advice the band clearly aren't about to heed.
