CBS Records UK released The Devil and Darkness throughout Europe, remaining enthusiastic towards the band, given it was the first Freur feature-single released after their debut album and its eponymous semi-hit song, Doot Doot first and only charting single from 1983 (and forever thereafter, as the proverbial Devil of the lyrics from this tune would have it, oddly contrasting its catchy, chipper and organically rendered new wave, also a departure, musically, from the languid, synth-infused semi-hit debu. Released in 1984, recorded and rendered by Freur and John Hudson in London’s Mayfai.
