Martin Bladh is a Swedish artist of multiple mediums. His work is dark, visceral, hypnotic and disturbing, laying bare themes of violence, obsession, fantasy, auto-eroticism, self-mutilation, domination, submission, narcissism. Further beyond that, there is also a tribal, base, essential quality to his work, a kind of saving grace which grounds his art and makes it extremely rare and extremely valid. That he walks in the same footsteps as Hermann Nitsch; between the cruelty of beauty and disgust. But to look through such a narrow angle would be deceitful, although Bladh confesses his kinship with Nitsch when he in an article in the publication Heterogénesis (No. 50-51, 2005) with the title 010804, 1. 0 – Castle Prinzendorf´s Chapel (First floor) writes: It’s the cameras duty to immortalise the beauty of the passion, just like the great painter’s of.
The Theatre of Cruelty (French: Théâtre de la Cruauté, also French: Théâtre cruel) is a form of theatre generally associated with Antonin Artaud. Artaud, who was briefly a member of the surrealist movement, outlined his theories in The Theatre and its Double. The Theatre of Cruelty can be seen as a break from traditional Western theatre and a means by which artists assault the senses of the audience.

The Theatre of Cruelty is both a philosophy and a discipline. Artaud wanted to disrupt the relationship between audience and performer. The ‘cruelty’ in Artaud’s thesis was sensory, it exists in the work’s capacity to shock and confront the audience, to go beyond words and connect with the emotions: to wake up the nerves and the heart. He believed gesture and movement to be more powerful than text. Shortly afterwards he published his 'First Manifesto for a Theatre of Cruelty' in La Nouvelle Revue Française; it would later appear as a chapter in his seminal book The Theatre and Its Double. He wrote a study of Van Gogh and recorded Pour en Finir avec le Jugement de dieu (To Have Done With the Judgment of God) in 1947.

Martin Bladh is a multi-faceted artist. Over his years in the public eye, Martin has worked on numerous visual, musical, and performance art projects. He entered the public realm through his power-electronics project, IRM, with Erik Jarl, and later joined by Mikael Oretoft. He would soon join forces with Magnus Lindh creating the musical force know as Skin Area. The Sektor 304 guys contacted me back in 2012, and wanted me to send them a guest recording for a live broadcast they were doing for the Portuguese radio. When I heard the result I was very pleased and asked them if they wanted to collaborate with me on an album. I remember making clear from the start that this would be something different from what I’ve been doing with IRM and Skin Area, and the guys were very sympathetic and excited about that.
The Theater of Cruelty was going to be all spectacle, all the time! It would use music, dance, and certifiably bananas lighting design that would wake up the audience to how bizarre and violent real life actually is. He wanted a theater that would leave an ineffaceable scar.
This theater, as Esslin has pointed out, "has renounced arguing about the absurdity of the human condition; it merely presents it in being - that is, in terms of concrete stage images of the absurdity of existence. Too often, however, the viewer notes only these basic similarities and fails to note the distinctive differences in each dramatist. Early critics referred to the Theater of the Absurd as a theater in transition, meaning that it was to lead to something different.
