Sound & Color is the second studio album by American rock band Alabama Shakes. It was released on April 21, 2015 via ATO Records, MapleMusic Recordings and Rough Trade Records. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in the . giving the band their first chart-topper; globally, the album hit the top ten in Australia, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Sound & Color was a critical success and received six Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year.
Alabama Shakes second studio album, Sound & Color, released April 21, 2015 was a rare success story among new guitar bands in the streaming era, as said by Rolling Stone. This perfect mix of black Southern soul and white rock & roll debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in the . as well as hitting it globally in Australia, UK, the Netherlands, just to name a few. Sound & Color was also a critical success, winning four of the six Grammy nominations it received: Best Alternative Music Album, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, as well as Best Rock Performance and Best.
Alabama Shakes: from small-town bar band to titans of rock. Ultimately, though, for all its many thrills, sales (725,000-plus in the US) and high-profile fans (Jack White and Adele and Robert Plant and the Obamas), their debut was still a preternaturally rocking roots album. Its successor, three years in the making, is something else altogether, a record with expanded, kaleidoscopic horizons. So long compared to singers such as Etta James and Janis Joplin, Howard is now channelling Curtis Mayfield, Prince, Marvin Gaye and Erykah Badu
On their 2015 follow-up, Sound & Color, they free themselves from the vestiges of the past, let loose, and push themselves further in either direction. Where Boys & Girls sometimes seemed a shade austere - the band took pains to color within the lines, almost as if to convey their good taste - Sound & Color bursts with oversaturated hues so vivid they seem almost tangible.
